This page shows you how to go about getting the best from Left Hand World and all the facilities and resources it offers you.

There is a huge amount on offer and as a creative lefthander you will find lots of new ways to use the tools and applications in ways the we have not even thought of. If you do something clever or innovative, don't forget to make a blog entry or discussion forum post about it so others can try it as well!

Have a good look round

It is going to take you a while to become familiar with all the tools, information and resources we have brought together for you, but if you just click your way around all the items on the top and left menus you will soon get a good feel for what is there.

Look at some of our information on being left-handed

Update your profile

This is where you can tell others about yourself and your interests, business, school or clubs.  Whenerver you make a post in a discussion forum or send a message, your profile picture and link is shown so other members can find out who you are, so make sure it gives a good impression!.

Click the YOUR PROFILE link on the top menu and you can see what is already there.

This is a really useful page is it has direct links to all your own information and pages
Custom web page
Audio/video postcards
Blog
Photo galleries
Forum posts

It also has a useful list of links for thingsd to do with quick access to all your applications.

Click the top that says "Watch our short video" for more information or if you are ready to go click the "Update your profile" link.

You can put as much or as little information about yourself as you like in your profile.  Profiles can only be seem by other members - not visitors or guests. The more information you add, the more chance you will find other members who are like you to make contact with.

The system shows your location on a world map so others can see where you are.  It will base on whatever information you provide - country, city etc.

It is important that you upload a picture of yourself or some other suitable image as it will appear by all your forum posts and messages and it will also make sure you are listed in the "GROUP MEMBERS" list and show up on the map showing all member locations.  The ideal picture is a .gif or .jpg image that is 200 x 150 pixels in size.  Or just browse to any image of you on your local computer (gif or jpg) and it will be resized automatically.

Introduce yourself on the Discussion Board

We have a special category for new members to introduce themselves.  This category is watched by lots of members so they can see who is joining up and your post will also appear in the digest on our home page for a while.

Click here to go to the New Members category of the discussion forum

Then click on the "Post new message" link and make your entry.  Say a bit about yourself, where you are and your interests and that is it.  Your profile image and link will automatically be shown with your post so people can find out more about you or easily send you a Private Message if they want.

Talking of which...

Send  a private message (PM)

If you know any other members already, find them by clicking on SEE GROUP MEMBERS in the top menu bar and pur part of their name in the search box.

Click on their image and then on "Send me a private message"

Type or record your message and click Send - that is it.

If you don't know any other members yet, why not send your first message to Keith ("Lefthander") and he will send one back so you can see how it works (Keith is on UK time so bear in mind that it may not come back immediately - click the World Times link at the top left to see the time in various parts of the world).

Set up your Signature Block

To save you keep typin gthe same thing at the end of all your forum posts or private messages, you can create a standard "signature block" that will automatically appear at the end of each of your entires.

You set it up by clicking on the "Communication System" link in the left menu and then clicking on "User Preferences". You can set various communication preferences here and at the bottom of the page there is a block to enter your message signature.
